Our CEO Delivers Main Speech at BCH Awards

Lucy was delighted to be invited to make the Keynote Speech at the BCH Awards 2026

Following her recognition as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising Award, our CEO, Lucy Chatting, was deeply honoured to be invited back to deliver the keynote speech at the 2026 Birmingham Children’s Hospital Awards.

Being asked to address a room filled with hospital teams, supporters, fundraisers and families was a genuine privilege and a moment of reflection on a journey that began almost a decade ago following her son Carter’s diagnosis with childhood cancer. During the speech, Lucy shared her family’s experience of childhood cancer, the inspiration behind Carter the Brave, and the incredible fundraising journey that has helped raise vital funds to support children and families at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Lucy also paid tribute to the extraordinary people behind the fundraising efforts, celebrating the dedication, kindness and determination of Team Carter — many of whom were in the room, having taken on the unforgettable challenge of trekking the Sahara together in 2025. Whilst accepting the recognition, Lucy was keen to stress that the award was never about one person and belonged to the entire team, acknowledging that none of the achievements over the years would have been possible without their unwavering support and commitment.

In a powerful closing moment, Lucy announced the next ambitious milestone — a new £1 million fundraising goal for Carter the Brave — prompting a huge round of applause from the room and marking the start of an exciting new chapter in the journey to support seriously ill children and their families.
