DesignerGiving reduces impact on the Environment

The fashion industry has a profound impact on the environment, contributing to climate change, resource depletion, and pollution. Here at DesignerGiving, we work hard to not only help children but also play our part in reducing impact on the environment by encouragaing recycling of clothing, footwear & accessories.

Here's a breakdown of the key issues in the fashion industry:

  • Carbon Emissions - the fashion industry is responsible for around 2-8% of global carbon emissions, resulting from energy-intensive processes across the supply chain, including raw material cultivation, manufacturing, and transportation.

  • Water Usage - the industry consumes vast amounts of water, particularly for cotton cultivation, which requires significant water resources. Additionally, dyeing processes often involve releasing harmful chemicals into water bodies, leading to pollution.

  • Resource Depletion - the fashion industry relies on finite resources like petroleum for synthetic fibers and minerals for dyes and accessories, contributing to resource extraction and environmental strain.

  • Chemical Pollution - harmful chemicals used in textile dyeing and finishing processes can result in water pollution and pose health risks to workers and nearby communities.

  • Textile Waste - the industry generates enormous volumes of textile waste, with 85% of all textiles ending up in landfills each year. Fast fashion's disposable culture promotes rapid clothing turnover, exacerbating the issue.
