CEO Lucy Chatting is proud to support Research

Lucy Chatting shows her deep support for research into Childhood Cancer.
Through our fundraising for BCH, we have been able to donate 24,500 to Dr Potluri's Research into the vulnerabilities of pre-leukaemic syndromes in children. Children with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) have a blood cancer that’s hard to treat. About 1 in 5 of them also have an inherited condition like Fanconi anaemia. Today’s main treatments—stem cell transplants and chemotherapy—are tough on the body and often cause serious side effects. We don’t really know the molecular details of these inherited conditions or the AML that comes with them, so better treatments aren’t available.
Few labs in the UK or worldwide are studying this gap. Dr Potluri is using new methods to find weaknesses that exist only in bone-marrow and leukaemia cells, so future drugs can target the cancer without harming the rest of the body. Dr Potluri has already made good progress and will be able to gain some insight into why the treatment for Leukaemia is successful for some children and not others. Lucy Chatting says 'We need more paediatric cancer research and so I am really pleased to be able to support this project with Dr Potluri. We hope it may lead to kinder treatment.'
